Welcome to Govardhana Eco Village (GEV), a 70-acre sustainable farming community and retreat center on the foothills of the Sahyadhri Mountains, 108km north of Mumbai,.When you visit GEV, you will experience a community that is a successful fusion between ancient Vedic wisdom and modern science.
Our focus at GEV is learning how to live in harmony with the environment, developing a ‘spiritual ecology’ that can bring about tangible, positive changes within ourselves – and how we interact with the planet.
Modernity has introduced advances in science, medicine, and human rights, but it has also led to some serious, long-term negative side effects. Depression, suicide, social marginalization, and religious and gender prejudice are some of these results. Not only are we personally affected, but the earth’s ecology is also ailing because of our imbalanced lifestyles.
In the ancient past, in Vedic times, life was focused on service to the world and its inhabitants – both human and animal – not their exploitation. This was the essence to leading a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
With this positive attitude of nurture and service, GEV showcases this profound principle of ‘simple living, high thinking’, and its relevance in today’s world.
Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), frequently encouraged his disciples to adhere to this principle by developing farm communities for healthful and ecological living.
To help fulfill this desire, his disciple Radhanatha Swami, the spiritual mentor for ISKCON’s center in Chowpatty, envisioned a sustainable farm community in and inspired his followers to create GEV.
Despite its humble beginnings in 2003, GEV is now an award-winning eco community where the technology of modern science combines with Vedic wisdom. It provides a sustainable solution to the ecological crises we are now facing throughout the world.
At GEV you will experience a life that is socially, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually joyful, based on a sustainable sensitivity to the environment. We welcome you to explore this world of hope and opportunity soon.
