Aayukshetram (origin: Sanskrit ‘Aayu’ + ‘Kshetram’) means ‘Temple of Life’. It is a boutique Ayurvedic wellness and healing center, nestled by lush green beautiful hills on all sides. Away from the sounds of urban environment the place bestows absolute peace and tranquility upon all its habitants – the people, birds and animals.
We are housed by traditional Kerala style cottages & rooms, elegantly and mindfully built with the ancient science which consciously integrates natural elements such as light, wind, space and aesthetics. The center provides in-house Ayurvedic treatment facilities and serves pure vegetarian cuisine cooked in traditional method, with love.
As expressed by previous guests, the ashram-like living, the solitude and tranquility allows each of us to look and listen within. The wellness programs are designed after discovering specific needs, purpose and possibilities from thorough assessment with the patient. Each patient is a person with specific need for healing and harmony among the body, mind and soul.
Aayukshetram entrusts Vasudeva Vilasam Aryavaidyasala who works with the doctor and the team to design and provide treatments. Vasudeva Vilasam is a traditional name in Ayurvedic health care service since 1884, who also produce more than 500 Ayurvedic medicines and pure herbal formulations. he very beginning of the project lays with Ayurveda thousands of years ago, but since the physical foundation of Aayukshetram, Vasudeva Vilasam has been not only pivotal provider of the treatments and medicines but also laid the first brick for the project. Since the first clinic over a century ago, it has been practicing Ayurveda – the uniquen healing system.
Vasudeva Vilasam - the service partner for Aayukshetram has directed its efforts to bring this system of healthcare and healing into the lives of the common man more realistically. It has been a profound voyage of discovery inspired by an unflagging devotion to the purest form of medicine and preventive remedies. This has been done through a wide array of institutions. The first vaidyasala or medicine counter was established in 1884 by Vaidya N. Vasudevan Unni, former palace Physician to Sri Moolam Thirunal Maharaja of Travancore and superintendent of Ayurveda Padasala (now the Government Ayurveda college Trivandrum) under the patronage of Dhanwanthridas Cheerattamon Moose of Olessa, one of the Ashta Vaidyas.
Thus, through a team of expert doctors and professionals, the group pursues its mission to make the benefits of Ayurveda available to everyone seeking to heal.This pristine science has been practiced by great visionaries in the field of traditional medicine and has been followed rigorously by generation of doctors, especially in Kerala, among other states in Southern. First meal of the day: The breakfast in Southern is light - mostly steamed dishes mades with rice/wheat, vegetables and pulses. Some of the traditional breakfast items include: Iddly or steamed ricecakes, Dosa, Uppum, Idiuppum or stringhoppers, Puttu, Upma Boiled Banana These dishes are made with traditional spices and are served with chutney and curry. For special need of the patient, the breakfast is modified by the doctor. Lunch: In most of rice and chapattis are served together. In South, mostly rice is consumed in lunch. There is a wide range of rice types available in Kerala. At Aayukshetram, 4-5 types of rice varieties are served based on the patient need. The lunch is served on a thali – a stainless steel plate, with rice in the centre surrounded with vegetables and lentils. Vegetables are cooked in different ways – in different flavors such as sweet, sour and astringent. They are also served raw, steamed or mixed with lentils (dahl). Dinner: The dinner is simple and light, consisting of chapatti and a vegetable curry, because it is not advisable to have heavy meals in the evening. The basic amount of proteins required for normal human body is consumed through lentils/pulses served 2-3 times per day. Calcium is consumed with some vegetables as well as, milk or buttermilk. Fruit plates are provided as per doctor’s consultation.
