Amala Cancer Hospital and Research Centre was established in 1978 as nonprofit, charitable institution aimed at treatment and management of Cancer in Central Kerala. Over the years, Amala has grown to become one of the major voluntary territory level hospital in having modern diagnostic, therapeutic and research facilities to combat Cancer and other ailments. This 550 bed hospital complex is unique in having three principal systems of medicines namely Allopathy, Ayurveda and Homoeopathy in the same campus. We are handling an average of 4,000 new Cancer cases and 6,000 Cancer inpatients in a year. The centre manages 35,000 Cancer outpatient visits yearly.
Then system of Medicine, Ayurveda is ancient and rich. Its earliest concepts are set out in the sacred writings called the Vedas, especially in the metrical passages of the Atharvaveda, which may possibly date as far back as the 2nd millennium BC. This system of Medicine has been practiced in the Country from time immemorial and has stood the test of time. Amala realised the potentials of this holistic system. This resulted in establishing Amala Ayurveda Hospital in the Complex in February 1982.
Amala Ayurvedic Hospital has a bed-strength of over 100. Treatment is given for all general diseases including rheumatic disorders, peptic ulcer, psoriasis etc. Special treatments like Dhara, Massage, Navarakizhi etc. are given for patients who have complaints of Hemiplegia, Paraplegia, Facial Paralysis, Arthritis etc. Eco-Friendly Hospital

Apart from following all legal mandations in regard to solid waste management, waste water treatment, bio-medical hazard waste processing and disposal non-degradable wastes, Amala has its own internal rules regarding protection of Natural water sources, maximum utilisation of non-conventional energy and the like.
Our hospital complexes and annexes use solar water heating systems to the maximum. All our buildings are constructed with enough open windows to avoid usage of lights at daytimes, thereby reducing the overall carbon footprint. Only energy efficient lights and other electrical fittings are used all over the buildings. Almost the entire terrace of all buildings are equipped with Solar Water Heating systems for use by the patients of the hospital, and for treatment. This enables to save considerable amount of carbon discharge by reducing the electricity consumed.

Calicut Intenational Airport (CCJ) at Karippur is 95 kilometers (59 miles) North of Amala. It is about 2:00 - 2:30 hours drive from Airport. By Train how to reachTrichur (Thrissur) Railway Station is only 8 kilometers (5 miles) away from Amala. 1 Amala is just about 15 minutes drive from the Railway Station. Amala is on Thrissur - Kunnamkulam route about 15 minutes from Thrissur Town. All trains plying this route have a stop at Trichur (Thrissur) Railway Station. By Bus busAmala is on Thrissur - Kunnamkulam route about 15 minutes from Thrissur Town. If you are coming from Kozhikode (Calicut), Ooty, Mangalapuram (Mangalore), Guruvayur or Kunnamkulam, the hospital can be seen on the right side of the road just 8 kilometers before Thrissur Town. If you are coming from Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) or Ernakulam, first reach Thrissur and take Kunnamkulam / Guruvayur road.
