Area East includes the provinces of Castellón, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia and Albacete, but do not correspond to the same community. Their mutual proximity makes them a compact core and a good place for people to come to meditate together. After an intense search for a rented place suitable for ten-day courses, and given the large number of meditators throughout the eastern area, two ten-day courses took place in the summer of 2011 with an amazing host, where many students were involved, both sitting and serving in the courses. Located in a protected natural landscape of great beauty and surrounded by the magical and captivating energy of Sierra Calderona, the Bethany Hostel is a natural balcony over the Mediterranean Sea, from which you can see much of the Gulf of Valencia. The nearby village Segart is near to Sagunto and lies only 20 km away from Valencia. The climatic environment is typically Mediterranean, as its altitude and being about ten miles from the sea, makes the tempaerature very pleasant and mild. Also, for students who have completed a ten-day course, intensive four-hour group meditations are held in Valencia and Denia (Alicante) one Sunday a month. Also, for old students, there are also weekly meditation sessions in Valencia and Denia for which no registration is required. You can find more information on the website by following this link: Area East courses. The 10-day courses are open to both new and old students and you have a calendar with all available courses: Vipassana Courses. We encourage meditators in the provinces of Murcia, Albacete and Castellon to create official meditation groups for old students. Group meditations are valuable opportunities to strengthen the practice of Vipassana. They are an invaluable aid that allows meditators to grow and become established in Dhamma.
