It offers the most authentic Ayurveda in Sri Lanka, where guests can choose between the Ayurveda Light program, the Ayurveda Intensive program or the Ayurveda Healing program. It is recognised for its comprehensive, authentic Ayurveda treatment as well as for its exceptional care and generous hospitality. As a guest you will experience a holistic approach to Ayurveda, the warmth of the people, the beautiful sandy beach, the coconut palm gardens and an array of activities on offer.

Situated on one of the most picturesque beaches in the country, it is an oasis of relaxation for those guests looking for the the perfect Ayurveda Hotel to refresh their mind and body. In addition to the stunning beach-side location Surya Lanka also has two large palm fringed gardens, where guests relax in between treatments. There are also weekly organised activities such as Yoga, Afternoon Excursions, Panchakarma lectures and Botanical tours of the gardens. Add to this a well organised Ayurveda Centre, monitored by a highly professional and attentive team of Doctors – which makes Surya Lanka Ayurveda Resort a recognised leader in the field of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka.

For more than 24 years, Surya Lanka has been synonymous with authentic Ayurveda in Sri Lanka, and our Ayurveda standard has been held in high esteem amongst our many repeat guests. The Ayurveda centre is run by an experienced, competent and particularly sensitive team of doctors and therapists. The doctors are graduates with many years of practical experience both at home and abroad, who have been specially trained in our Ayurveda system – a program of treatments which carefully follow the original Panchakarma traditions. Every guest is different, and as such the Doctors conscientiously select the treatments and therapies that would provide an optimal result to each guest. Similarly, therapists have been hand picked from among the best in Sri Lanka – many have been at Surya Lanka for over 15 years. All therapists have been trained in-house, and receive regular training at our Ayurveda centre. As a result, Ayurveda has been successfully developed at into a highly effective and respected medical system for guests seeking holistic well-being.

Packages (1)

1. Panchakarma

Ayurveda (translated as “holistic knowledge of life”) incorporates a scientific system of medicine aimed at restoring total well-being through cleansing and rejuvenation – Panchakarma. This classical method of detoxification removes the cause of an illness and corrects the imbalance of the 3 bio-energies of Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

There are five procedures which constitute panchakarma; – Vamana (therapeutic vomiting), Virechena; Vasti (basti) and rakthamakshan (blood-letting, not practised at Surya Lanka). The sequence of treatments is organized according to the ayurvedic principles of –

  1. Purvakarma (Pre-treatment) – Transports toxic substances within the body to places from which they can be expelled via the natural body openings during the cleansing process. This stage includes snehanam (internal oleation) steam and massages with specific oils. It is important that this process is fully done otherwise the cleansing process will not be complete and the body will not be rid of its toxins.
  2. Pradhanakarma (Primary-treatment) – The actual elimination of the toxic substances via vasti, virechena, nasya and vamana. Some of these treatments require dietary restrictions in order to work efficiently.
  3. Pashtatakarma (Post-treatment) – Includes dietary adjustments, regeneration therapies and medicines.

It is important that a panchakarma cure is administered in these 3 stages as prescribed in the classical texts on Ayurveda. A few massages given in a haphazard way or treatments such as virechena given without the necessary pre-preparation of snehanam does not give a complete detoxification and could even result in unpleasant side-effects.

At Surya Lanka we practice classic, authentic Panchakarma in Sri Lanka. We offer 3 levels of Panchakarma cure. Each level is comprehensive, result oriented; responsive to each guest’s needs and individual medical condition; administered by a team of highly professional, caring doctors and therapists.

Surya Lanka Ayurveda Beach Resort Reviews

Talalla, Sri Lanka

I have visited Kerala and Sri Lanka many times over the last 09 years to receive Ayurveda Treatment - so far Surya Lanka has been the best overall. In my experience in general Ayurveda in Kerala is a bit more intensive compared to Sri Lanka, with more focus on Panchakarma treatments than massages. Surya Lanka is intensive! As the Doctor explained to me this is because the overall Ayurveda program was devised by one of the leading Ayurveda Doctors in India over 20 years ago, and they have maintained that same schedule to this day. After the consultation with the Doctor I received my personal treatment program. The next day at a different session the same Doctor also explained what oils would be used for my massages. The Ayurveda program follows the traditional Panchakarma process of three steps - Preparation, treatment and aftercare. At the end there is another meeting with the Doctor to see the final results. This Resort also gets top points for overall experience. The beach right next to the property is beautiful. I had two walks a day during the sunrise and sunset because I did not participate in the Yoga. The room was spacious and had a balcony overlooking the garden, and the staff are the friendliest people I have come across (especially Dilum in the restaurant and Lahiru at the Reception). It was a joy to be at Surya Lanka. My body feels the best it has in a long time, and my mind is at rest. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a serious Ayurveda program.

I came for the first time to do a punchakarma 13 days retreat. I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised and I am Inlove with the place... 50 shades of curry... so much to choose from and super friendly n professional. This is not a luxury facility, yet, simple and clean. You hear the waves and relax automatically... a m a z I n g

I could heighly recommend, if you want a very quiet Ayurveda treatment. Very frindly stuff and direct located at a wonderful beach (exept of the dogs). Its not a luxery resort, but clean, food is fine and i recommend the rooms in the new wing. Ayurveda medicine is natural, so no heavy metal as they told me.

My husband and I stayed at Surya Lanka for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon. In summary, this place is in a fantastic location, has amazing food, lovely staff, a gorgeous beach and really high-quality service. Facilities are not luxurious because it's all part of providing a realistic Ayurvedic experience. We have nothing to add to Surya Lanka. If you are looking for a true detox and relaxing experience this is THE place to be! Thank you so much for helping us switching off :D

Stockholm, Sweden

Spent two weeks of ayurveda treatments at Surya Beach and enjoyed every minute of it. The hotel is offering good accommodations - not luxury, but good rooms and bathrooms. The food is just fantastic - too good if you want to loose weight! The treatments are well organized, although I am not sure of the quality of the doctors. This was my 5th ayurveda treatment, mainly for allergies, and I must say that other treatments have been more successful. The facilities are very well organized. Everything is very efficient but somehow the doctors do not come across as experts. The setting of the hotel is very nice, and the walks on the beach are fantastic! The only thing we did not like were that for instance the yoga instructor explained everything in German and that some of the staff took for granted that we spoke German, which we do not! Granted, most of the guest were from Germany or Switzerland, but if the Surya Beach want other nationalities to come to the hotel, they have to approach all guests in a neutral language. And English is the language which is widely spoken i Sri Lanka - not German. Also, the WiFi was "up and down"and did not work at all times in the room, but in the lobby the connection was usually good.
