The Lighthouse Center, Inc. is a diverse, non-denominational group with a common goal of practicing Ahinsa (non-violence) and meditation.As a bridge between East and West, the Lighthouse Center Inc. focuses on supporting people in their spiritual philosophies and journeys, while always being mindful of Divine Order. The center is an oasis of peace, well-being and healing. The vibrations at the center are comparable to the ancient places of worship around the world that are peaceful, loving and energizing. This is a non-denominational meditation center, founded in 1979 by Chetana Catherine Florida, who was our guiding teacher. Founded Lighthouse Center Inc. Catherine Florida was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She became a mantra meditator in 1972 after the death of her first husband. She taught metaphysics classes for “Do Something Different†in area high schools and colleges and in 1978 founded The Lighthouse Center for Spriritual Development in Whitmore Lake, Michigan. She met Jain Master Gurudev Chitrabhanuji in the 1980’s and in 1991 was initiated as his first apostle atop the holy Jain Mountain Shatrunjaya in Palitana,. It was here that she was given the spiritual name Chetana, which means pure awareness, pure consciousness. She completed her fifth pilgrimage to with Gurudev in September, 2002 and received the International Vegetarian Award from the Bombay Vegetarian Society. She was the beloved Spiritual Mother to hundreds of meditation students at The Lighthouse Center and around the world. Her meditation classes, personal readings and teachings were always about the universal message of Reverence and Respect for All Life.
