Welcome to Nagaloka! Nagaloka is a community in Portland,, dedicated to the study and practice of Buddhism. We are an independent and self-governing center within the Triratna Buddhist Community, which is an international network of public centers, communities and projects. Our mission is to create the best possible conditions in which to explore and practice the Buddhist path. We study and practice meditation and Buddhadharma in a spiritual community based on the ideals of compassion, generosity, mindfulness, and the cultivation of wisdom. Meditation At Nagaloka we practice and teach two Meditation practices: The Mindfulness of Breathing and The Metta Bhavana Meditation Mindfulness of Breathing helps to calm the body and still the mind. The Metta Bhavana helps to develop and cultivate loving kindness for self and all beings. Some of the benefits of Meditation: Meditation is a state of increased awareness, helps to develop positive emotions and raises our level of being. It brings more clarity with more freedom to be creative. Beginners to meditation may experience a warm, expansive heart along with less mental chatter. Many people experience a sense of contentment and clearer outlook on life.
