The Himalayan Tradition is at least 5,000 years old. It is linked to an unbroken lineage of sages who kept this tradition alive through oral instruction and personal spiritual initiation. Adi Shankara established the ascetic order about 1,200 years ago though renunciates had already lived in an unbroken lineage from the Vedic period.
The Tradition teaches specific methods of training the human mind. The methods are scientific, systematic and inward directed.
Activities in the ashram include programs in meditation, yoga, self-transformation, silence retreats, the art of living and being, and yoga psychology. Spiritual guidance is available for those aspirants seeking instruction in meditation.
Kirtan, also known as sankirtan, is the call-and-response chanting of the myriad names of the Lord. Kirtan is offered in the ashram at scheduled events with local and guest artists. Some outstanding artists visiting the ashram in the past include Vaiyasaki Das, L.N. Tiwari, and Ragani.
