Common Ground

Common Ground is a wellness studio located in downtown Charlottesville. Our space includes a fully equipped yoga studio and meditation space, a community acupuncture clinic, and private room for massage. By sharing space, our practitioners connect and collaborate in serving clients who seek to integrate multiple healing modalities. Common Ground is a hub for healing in the Charlottesville community.

Since January 2010, Common Ground’s outreach programs have been bringing the healing arts directly to community members who may be unable to access them otherwise. Through a generous grant provided by the Bama Works Fund of the Dave Matthews Band as well as hundreds of volunteer hours donated by local healing arts practitioners, Common Ground is able to offer a variety of free wellness services to underserved populations.

Our outreach practitioners partner with local service providers to reach low-income adults, people with limited English proficiency, the elderly, incarcerated women, minorities, and other special populations. Current outreach offerings include:

  • A weekly chair massage clinic at JABA’s Westhaven Nursing Clinic
  • A weekly yoga class at Sunrise Park Community Center
  • A weekly yoga class for incarcerated women at the Fluvanna County Correctional Facility

We believe that working together, and with the continued support of foundations, corporate giving programs, and individual donors, we can make a difference in the health of our whole community, one person at a time.

Hot Yoga Virginia United states

We took the experiences of our first location, the expertise of hot yoga studio owners across the globe, and local engineers and technicians to create our state-of-the-art Hot Yoga Virginia United states studio.

Our heating system pumps in fresh air from outside (not recycled from inside like many studios), filters it, heats it, humidifies it, and then pours it into our 1700 square foot hot room (we want you to have room to move!). The heat performs within 2 degrees of set point throughout the practice and a whole-room humidifier hidden behind the walls keeps the humidity between 35%-41% humidity.

While it looks and feels like bamboo, our floor is 100% waterproof with a sustainable cork underlayment. This solid surface floor is beautiful to see and perfect for practice. Hot Yoga Virginia United states In our smaller hot room, designed for private lessons, we have a solid surface floor that looks like wood but provides more slip resistance than natural wood.

Our experienced instructors will make you feel welcomed and energized, no matter your experience level, age, or body type. Get to know our instructors below.

The reasons to practice yoga stretch far beyond the obvious. In addition to offering a supportive and welcoming community along with a great workout, there are a number of health improvements that can come with regular hot yoga practice. Below are a few of our favorites.
