Just above Rishikesh, Phool Chatti Ashram is a little slice of paradise! Located on the banks of the Ganga River (Ganges) in the Himalayan foothills, we are surrounded by mountain forests, hiking trails, swimming beaches, and nature in abundance. The Hem River also joins the Ganga at our doorstep, so we are double lucky!
Once an ancient pilgrimage route, the site was thought to be ideal to provide rest for spiritual travelers.
In the late 1800's, Sri Devi Dayal ji Maharaj, a spiritually awakened sadhu, founded Phool Chatti Ashram in order to serve his fellow sadhus and other pilgrims venturing into sacred territory.
Phool Chatti’s a tradition of service continued and expanded over the decades to welcome people from all walks of life and many regions of the world.
Since 1977, Phool Chatti has been under the care and guidance of its present Swami Ji, Swami Dev Swarup Nanda Ji.
The ashram has preserved its character and ’feel’ of its long 120-year (plus) history, yet it has modernized its facilities to provide comfort and convenience to its residents and guests. Electricity, western toilets, hot and cold water, as well as the ashram now managing its communications by phone and the internet; are all part of the way that Phool Chatti has kept the balance of tradition alive alongside the conveniences of modern life.
